Honoring Janie Shults

A Mission of Healing, Compassion, & Advocacy

A survivor of Stage 3 breast cancer diagnosed at the age of 30, Janie transformed her personal experience into a community‑wide mission to expand access to life‑saving breast cancer screenings. She has played a leading role in raising funds, coordinating healthcare partnerships, and organizing free screening events for women who lack affordable or consistent medical care.

Through her collaboration with the Kingsland Masonic Lodge, Janie has helped bring free mammogram services directly to Kingsland residents by using Lodge facilities to host these events at no cost to the public.

  • A proud Texas A&M Aggie (Class of ’80)
  • Holder of a graduate degree in administration from Lamar College
  • A retired high school educator (retired 2011)
  • Director of Philanthropy & Corporate Giving at Capitol Home Health
  • An active member of the Lambda Nu Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International
  • A long‑time visitor to the Kingsland area since the 1970s, now a full‑time resident since 2014

Her dedication, strength, and unwavering compassion reflect everything the Community Builder Award stands for.
